You are cordially invited to the largest GOP gathering prior to the 2012 Republican National Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. Our organization, “Evangelicals for Mitt” is a grass-roots political organization created in 2006 dedicated to Gov. Mitt Romney. We are evangelical Christians and also happen to be Tennesseans. My husband David and I live in Columbia, Tennessee — the Mule Capital of the World — and want to encourage other Southern voters to support the man we like to call the “Yankee Governor with Southern Values.”

In an effort to get Romney supporters to the conference to vote in the first significant straw poll of the 2012 Presidential season, Evangelicals for Mitt is sponsoring a limited number of Mitt fans by offering free tickets to the conference. The tickets are “full conference registration,” and are a $259 value each. WHILE SUPPLIES LAST, please fill out the information in the accompanying registration form and e-mail it to Mary Kate Brown (my little sister!) at marykatebrown@comcast.net with the subject line “SRLC.”

Your only obligation is to vote in the SRLC Straw Poll for Gov. Romney while you’re there. Otherwise, you can enjoy the meals, the speeches from some of the most prominent leaders in the GOP (including Gov. Romney) and the festivities.

While we are going to try to get as many Louisiana Mitt supporters as we can there, I wanted to offer tickets to Tennessee supporters of Gov. Romney first. After all, you’re the ones who propelled him to second place at the SRLC in 2006 — ahead of every other candidate except Sen. Frist. Let’s do it again — but let’s go ahead and get that #1 spot!

Why? We’ve had enough “hope” as we can afford with President Obama.

Hope you can make it — and it’s so much fun to be doing this again with you guys!

Go Mitt – 2012!

Editor’s Note: WCYR does not endorse candidates in primaries or nonpartisan elections. We encourage members to learn about all candidates and get involved in the campaign of your choice.

At a July press conference, President Obama claimed that “the average American family is paying thousands of dollars in hidden costs” because uncompensated health care for the uninsured drives up the price of medical coverage. In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, by contrast, he said uncompensated care costs the average family $900.

According to a 2008 report from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, both of those estimates are way off. The foundation’s analysis indicates that the true annual cost per family is more like $200, with uncompensated care accounting for “less than 1 percent of private health insurance costs.”

These numbers are important because the president’s main justification for requiring every American to buy health insurance, a central element of his reform plan, is that uninsured people unfairly impose costs on their fellow citizens. That rationale not only has a weak empirical basis, but it also conceals the real motivation for the individual insurance mandate, while dodging moral and constitutional questions about it.
